The Stay
Casa Azafranes
Nestled among the rolling hills of the Axarquía lies Casa Azafranes: an authentic Andalusian finca where nature, peace and space come together. Surrounded by olive and almond trees, with panoramic views of the mountains and the Mediterranean Sea, this is a place where time slows down.
The white finca blends effortlessly into the landscape. Warm terraces, atmospheric corners and a natural garden invite you to relax and enjoy the light, the silence and the beauty of Andalusia. From the first rays of sun to the spectacular sunsets, the view changes character every hour.
Casa Azafranes is more than a house on a hill. It is a place where nature sets the rhythm and where you experience the pure charm of Andalusian outdoor life.
Our Philosophy
"You sit on the terrace in the morning with your coffee and the whole valley is still in shadow. Then the light comes. It takes about twenty minutes and it's worth every one of them."
The Details
Crafted With Care
The House
Built in the old Andalusian way — thick white walls that keep out the summer heat, terracotta floors worn smooth over decades, wooden ceiling beams we left exactly as we found them.
The Garden
Olives, almonds, oranges, bougainvillea. A fig tree at the edge of the terrace. We planted most of it ourselves and it still surprises us every spring.
Breakfast
Homemade bread, local olive oil, cheese from the market in Vélez-Málaga, whatever fruit is ripe. We eat the same thing ourselves — that's the best recommendation we can give.
The Terrace
From up here you can see Arenas to the west, the ridge of the Sierra Tejeda to the north, and on a clear day a long strip of Mediterranean beyond the valley. We never tire of it.
How We Run It
We live here. We're not a hotel and we don't want to be one. If the cockerel wakes you at six, we apologise in advance. If you want to know where to eat, we'll tell you exactly where we go.
The Surroundings
Frigiliana is twenty minutes by car. The beach at Torre del Mar is thirty. Málaga is forty-five. The walking trails above the house start at the garden gate.
About Us
Peter & Linsey
We are Linsey and Peter — two adventurous souls born on the Belgian coast. Our shared passion for people brought us together when we were both volunteers with the fire and ambulance service. Together we have 4 children, 2 each from previous relationships. The children are now grown and finding their own way in Belgium.
Our greatest passion is travelling towards the sun, hiking to volcanoes and waterfalls. Warmth is deeply important to us — which is exactly why we chose to emigrate to Spain. Despite our love for Asia, we chose the Spanish sun so our children could stay close.
Peter is the handy one. He taught for years at a technical school and spent 30 years as an active firefighter. He loves working around the house, is fascinated by bees, and cannot hide his love of football.
Linsey ran a home nursing practice and loves being creative and experimenting in the kitchen. You will often find her with a book in hand, tucked away in a quiet corner.
A busy and hectic life eventually led us to a quiet hillside in the heart of Andalusia. Here we want to be closer to nature and experience more calm. We are building a place where hospitality and good food take centre stage. The panoramic views will capture your hearts — and we will do the rest with our warmth.
